I have made a change to the server test page which further refines the testing of each server, showing where recursion is being used for each test.
For tier-1 servers: All of the OpenNic TLD zones should be locally hosted, therefor no recursion should be needed. The test now reflects this, and will not even attempt a recursive lookup on any zone. If your server fails a zone test (and some of the T1 servers are failing), it is probably because you do not host this TLD locally.
For tier-2 server: You will see a new test result "Passed recursively". This means that you are not hosting the zone yourself, but your server does successfully allow recursive queries. Keep in mind that T2 servers are only required to slave the dns.opennic.glue zone (with the option to slave the root zone if you desire), and recursion is acceptable and expected for all other zones.
I will be adding this new testing to the tier-2 status reports when I can. If you run a tier-1 or tier-2 server, please make sure you have subscribed to the reports mailing list!
