Oh and I'd like to add that they even state that they want to provide SSL services for .o users in their charter which you voted yes for, so I don't see the issue here?

What's your problem? Anyone, including any TLD operator can create a root CA and issue certificates for their (or virtually any) domain. And promote it to make users use it if they want. There are no rules in place preventing this and unless (and until) we make our own root CA there should not be any, though I would personally like to see TLD operator - CA working group member distinction (to limit abuse, as described before).
