Actually our DNS and whois infrastructure works great since months. Also mixed content isn't really a security issue in our case but is on the todo list.

I do not think we need another TLD at this time. We already don't make great use of the ones we have, and .tut seems like it is going to be one that isn't touched. I also somewhat doubt your ability to run a well maintained service, as it seems like the website for your hosting company has mixed content errors, even though you claim that you work together with "infosec companies" to keep everything secure. I wish you luck.

The project is not lead by the school and not at all for school purposes only. In fact it officially belongs to our hosting company's NIC. The school is involved in development of the system though as a nice project the pupil can do.

As I have said: We are currently sponsoring the server ns1.by.de.dns.opennic.glue and are planning to sponsor a few more.

We are also supporting the non-censorship approach and have in fact built an anti-censorship measure into .tut domains - all of them are mirrored at .tut.tld.dev.srl which avoids censorship by OpenNIC (not that we think they would try to do censorship but splitting to multiple systems is a good approach IMO)

Do you think this would be better (and easier) served by an Intranet within the grammar school rather than a TLD open to the (OpenNIC-using) general public? Perhaps you can have the school's DNS servers cover .tut for your school without needing to get involved with OpenNIC?

On the other hand, we can always use new servers, and if your school's administration is willing to sponsor an OpenNIC server at their own expense, and open up .tut to the (OpenNIC-using) general public, that might be something to talk to the administration about.

Keep also in mind that there is no censorship with OpenNIC, except for some "blacklisting" servers which have built-in adblocking and/or protection against malicious Namecoin domains, so if you're looking for something with built-in parental controls, OpenNIC would not be what you're looking for.

Hang around on the mailing lists, take a look at mailing list archives and TLD charters, and then present a report to your school administration and see if they're willing to sponsor an OpenNIC server or just have .tut within a company Intranet. Let us know what they have to say and we can have a vote.
