Oh, and there's a followup essay on the Wayback Machine at <https://web.archive.org/web/20020514064832/http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2000/7/16/12039/2519> that's specifically about organizing OpenNIC too.

I was explaining DNS to my kids over the weekend and described when we started OpenNIc as an example of how people can choose to not use State systems but set up their own alternatives instead.

They asked if I still had the original essay of mine that OpenNIC started from.  I don't even know where my archives from pre-2015 or so even are, so I decided to see if I could find it somewhere online.

It isn't linked to from the Wikipedia page, but it _is_ in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine at <https://web.archive.org/ web/20030109113657/http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2000/6/1/182041/9992>.

Anyway, it still exists online at least.  :-)

Hoping you're all well,
