as there is some discussion going on, I thought it might be a good time
to throw in a little status for FurNIC.

FurNIC was founded as work group within Fellig e.V. to take over the
"fur" TLD. This was because of a similar situation as some of the
current TLDs face. To keep it alive we made FurNIC a thing. Since then
FurNIC also coordinated a number of other things not related to
OpenNIC.

As FurNIC is external to OpenNIC there is a peering agreement in place.
I personally think this is a good solution at this point as it seems to
provide the stability of both FurNIC and OpenNIC (better of both
worlds, not least common power :).

FurNIC is formally under supervision of our technical director, with
support of the rest of the board (all elected positions). With the
general assembly having the last word.

A word about registrations:
As the volume is very low, we are now doing manual registrations. The
old software used for the semi-automatic registrations (registrations
still needed approval) was no longer suitable for technical and legal
reasons. When we discontinued it, we switched to the current method
which seemed sufficient.

Best way to register a new domain or update your records is to reach
our to us via IRC, but E-Mail just works as well. Then we will ask you
for what we need. No need to be shy. :)

A word on social life:
Also if you're within Germany, or visiting Germany, feel free to visit
us at any of our public events. Nothing is fixed for this year yet, but
I'm sure we'll have at least our RNF Sommerfest, as well as some random
meetings. :)
