Hi !

We've been working last year on the Namecoin / Dot-BIT project ( http://dot-bit.org/ ) to build a decentralized and P2P DNS registration system. This project is based on the namecoin software which is a fork of bitcoin.

We've done a lot of work during one year and have several DNS servers (most of which are resolving OpenNIC TLDs), several web proxies (idem), softwares and script to convert data from the namecoin p2p database to a bind server for example.
See : http://dot-bit.org/How_To_Browse_Bit_Domains and http://dot-bit.org/DNS_and_Proxy_softwares

Here is a short explanation of how it works :
* registration of domains is done with the p2p namecoin software.
* due to the p2p nature of the software, there is no restriction on registration except the cost of a domain ( http://dot-bit.org/tools/domainCost.php ), 0.01NMC (NMC = the namecoin unit).
* a script fetch data from namecoin and convert it to bind zones
* a bind server using this script is "authoritative" for the .BIT zone

BarkerJr has added .bit to his server (with the NamecoinToBind script : https://github.com/khalahan/NamecoinToBind ). So, you could get a feedback from him if needed :p

Now, the questions :

* Would it be possible to create a Tier1 server for the .bit zone like that ? (i know this needs a votation, a chart, 2 servers, etc)

* Would it be possible to be peered with opennic with or without being a Tier1 server, and how it works without ?

* Did the fact that any server can be authoritative if they want will a problem ?

* Can only 1 authoritative server exist for the opennic project ?

* Some questions ?
