This might seem short, but I actually have another 3/4 of a page of notes putting this into more detail, and I will post it if there is interest, but here is the basics of it.

START
---------------------
OpenNIC WHOIS Information Policy

This is the format to follow for all those participating in the OpenNIC WHOIS system. It provides all the essential information while keeping registrant privacy in mind and provides for future use such as when needing to contact a domain holder directly and issuing SSL certificates, for example.

Template:
-------
Welcome to the OpenNIC Registry!
The following information is presented in the hopes that it will be useful, but OpenNIC makes ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE as to its accuracy. For more information please visit www.opennic.glue or www.opennicproject.org.

Domain: [domain].TLD
Domain Registered: [date_registered in YYYY-MM-DD format]
Domain Updated: [date_updated in YYYY-MM-DD format]
Domain Expires: [date_expires in YYYY-MM-DD format]
Domain Status: Active [also allows for future use of Pending and Expired]
Registrant Name: [Name]
Registrant Email: [Email]
NS1: [NS1]
NS2: [NS2]
Registrar: [Registrar URL]
-------

A more complete record with sample data:
-------
Welcome to the OpenNIC Registry!

Domain: example.TLD
Domain Registered: 2012-06-01
Domain Updated: 2012-06-05
Domain Expires: 2013-06-01
Domain Status: Active
Registrant Name: John Smith
Registrant Email: johns AT myemail.org
NS1: ns1.registrarwebsite.TLD
NS2: ns2.registrarwebsite.TLD
Registrar: www.registrarwebsite.TLD

END

Anything beyond that comes down to implementation, and I have two good ideas for that, one database-centric, and the other has optional use of a database but feeds directly from plain text files.

Martin.
