Yeah, they announced it ages ago and the new ones are probably coming
out soon (September I think?). There are good and bad parts in my
opinion. The main bad part is the cost prohibitiveness of getting one.
They charge LOADS of money for an application and more loads if you want
to contest an application. For instance FREE and ING are likely going
to be TLDs now (maybe not ING, copyrighted) and there is no way for us
to combat it because it costs thousands of dollars to file an appeal.
I think it would not be a bad thing if it was a more open and
approachable process. After all, OpenNIC doesn't have any limit to
TLDs, though we do vote on them.

I'm not opposed to new TLDs but there must be a better way.

In any case, it isn't like we have any say in the matter regardless. We
can only keep on with our project and fight the good fight. :)
