Right now I'm simply using dig AXFR to grab a list of domains, then check each for an available A/AAAA record.  It's not great, but it gets the job done.

Either opt-in or opt-out, the use of a TXT record would certainly make it easy to automate the procedure.  The advantage of using this for opt-in is that by specifically listing the domain and subdomain you want included, it reduces the chance that a desired subdomain is missed during the record scrape.

How are you scraping? Can this use DNAME with no added work?
