When I first heard of and joined ONIC I was expecting a small, united and dedicated organisation, on some levels capable of competing with the ICANN.

The overwhelming lack of sense of direction and 'unity' within the 'commUNITY' combined with the fact that in general it is hard to agree (and so much harder to disagree) on pretty much anything indicates otherwise.

I genuinely wish ONIC to become what I hoped for, though I am not sure if it is ever going to happen. Such an organisation I would love to be part of.

Is the goal of OpenNIC to create a legitimate democratic ICANN competitor, or are we simply a community of individuals who want to mess around with DNS and creating our own zones without restrictions, or something else/in between?

I believe I discussed this earlier with some people to varying opinions, so I thought I’d poll everyone here, see what you all think about our goals and levels of seriousness we all take with this project.
