Serial changes are just a fact of life. Like I said, it can be something as simple as a script screwing up or a mistyped entry -- its happened before. Normally DNS will self-recover within the zone expire period, but because of the way we have multiple masters passing the bad zones back and forth, that recovery never happens. If we bring it down to only two masters for each zone, then at the worst we just have to force one master to sync with the other.
If you want to talk about infrastructure disruptions, lets talk about T1 servers. The serials were changed almost a month ago, and half of the T1s are still carrying the wrong info for one or more zones. Martin has quit because apparently its too much trouble to actually look at his server once in awhile. Texnofobix has been completely MIA for months, and hasn't responded to my emails. Julian has tried updating several times but is still accepting bad zones from some of the T1s. And you are apparently just ignoring the matter completely and hoping it will go away? Every time I bring it up on chat you just drop out and walk away. Tim's server was completely dead for awhile, and has been back online for a few weeks but still isn't resolving any opennic zones. BBS, DYN, ING, and MICRO are completely offline. OSS, Parody, and Pirate are all unreliable because of the serial situation. And the OZ zone is currently in limbo. That's 8 out of 14 TLDs that are not working properly, and nobody seems to give a damn.
So what's with the attitudes? Does everyone expect their server to be a black box that they can just walk away from and ignore for a year at a time? God help us if we ever try to add any new TLDs or if the OZ zone gets transferred to a new master. Do we just tell the opennic members that's too bad, come back next year and maybe we'll have it updated? Yes, this kind of shit pisses me off. I understand people have things to do and lives to live, but its not like we have to make these kind of changes very often. Take 5 minutes and help resolve problems so we can keep the project running smoothly. Please.

it that the entire infrastructure must be disrupted because of serial
