this would work of course - if you publish the fingerprint of your
certs.
the main reason why i think CACert is 'the cert of your choice' is -
its structure is quite similar to OpenNIC - a CA run by its user.

startssl is 'without costs' (allthough time-limited) - but also there
are some browsers that don't support startssl (latest version of safari
if i remember right...)
