58.6.115.46 is no longer a valid server... apparently someone needs to update the wiki pages.  Instead, please use this server...

# dig . NS @75.127.96.89

As Maximi noted, 69.164.208.50 is no longer a valid server.  216.87.84.211 is valid, however I have been trying to resolve some server problems over the weekend.  It should be responding properly at this point.  If you take a look at http://opennicproject.org/publictier2servers you will find an automatically updated listing of the current Tier-2 servers, from which you can pick servers out of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, all of which should provide very low ping times to your location.

Sorry for all the confusion, we'll get those how-to pages updated with more correct info shortly...

dig . NS @58.6.115.46 > db.root

[root@opennic etc]# dig . NS @58.6.115.46 > db.root
[root@opennic etc]#

but if i check my db.root:

; <<>> DiG 9.3.6-P1-RedHat-9.3.6-16.P1.el5 <<>> . NS @58.6.115.46
;; global options:  printcmd
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

my resolv.conf is:

[root@opennic etc]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 69.164.208.50
nameserver 216.87.84.211
[root@opennic etc]#

Please see http://www.opennicproject.org/ for general information on resolving OpenNic domains from your server.

If you wish to run your own local DNS services using BIND9, take a look at this page: http://www.opennicproject.org/howtos/72-running-an-opennic-teir-2
