I run my tier-2 server from a single-core Athlon 2000 processor with 512MB of ram. Traffic is typically around 1.5 million hits per day, however there have been periodic attacks on our DNS services. I have a bash script that can run in the background and create/destroy iptables rules to block these specific attacks, if you need.

I think we are pretty well covered for US- and European-based servers, but you are more than welcome to run more if you wish. You can see the current distribution of T1 and T2 servers here -- http://opennic.oss/geomap/geomap.php
