Folks,

This behavior exemplifies the exact problems that seem to have plagued OpenNIC since the last time I was seriously involved.  At present, this is nothing more than an amateur project, at best, that will go nowhere if participants can't keep their egos in check.

This list is a discussion list, and as such, it is the natural place where things should be discussed.  Debate is only productive as long as it does not devolve into debasement.

There may be good reasons to take conversations off-list, such as the petty bickering that plagues it.  But that is the only thing it seems anyone wants to keep on-list.  Discussing bugs in our systems that affect everyone would seem appropriate, to me, but discussion on ways to move forward, and legitimize this project, should dominate the conversation.

Unfortunately, it seems I am in the minority.  I continue to see virtually every topic discussed devolve into pointless minutia or displays of bitter resentment at the suggestion that there might be a better way to do, well, anything.  Now would be a great time to read An Immodest DNS Proposal[1].  I don't think this is what Robin had in mind when he made his proposal.

Admittedly, I have let myself get into the heat of useless and petty debates before realizing it and backing out.  I tire of getting caught in these debates and watching my mailbox fill up with mind-numbing minutia.

So, where do we go from here?

There's nothing beer can't do. I recommend we all go and have a nice
cool beer, reflect on the accomplishments, and let the cooler heads
win the day!
