Hi OpenNIC people,
I'd like speak about the message of Aaron, I think he has a point. This is not how OpenNIC was envisioned, I think. But one of the things that OpenNIC as a organization has to deal with the fact that people appear and disappear of the radar without any sign. And that's their good right, there isn't a strict protocol in how to do that stuff because it's based on volunteers. OpenNIC as an organization and it's users should thankful for their efforts and appreciate them. Not to speak about the server administrators and the money they pay to make this all work. Jeff Taylor, Julian De Marchi, avo, shdwdrgn, Brian Koontz, Aaron A. Angel, other names come to my mind, not that they are all admins, but people that work or worked real hard to try to make this work. Not to forget Robin in the first place!
To speak for my self. I've been part of the WG thing when they came up. But when times goes on, I've other things and areas where I can do more for the same amount of energy. This isn't about my ego, I genuinely contributed to OpenNIC, but the paths diverge and that is a neutral thing, that happens and will happen. That doesn't say anything about my commitment to support OpenNIC as an organization and a mission: I still think it's a great thing and follow it sideways. Maybe it's a great experiment to test and explore how social stuff can be structured based on a more equal field. Personally I think OpenNIC is a pioneering initiative on this part, it started more than a decade before the major social and political stuff of today.
Anner.

Folks,
This behavior exemplifies the exact problems that seem to have plagued OpenNIC since the last time I was seriously involved. At present, this is nothing more than an amateur project, at best, that will go nowhere if participants can't keep their egos in check.
This list is a discussion list, and as such, it is the natural place where things should be discussed. Debate is only productive as long as it does not devolve into debasement.
There may be good reasons to take conversations off-list, such as the petty bickering that plagues it. But that is the only thing it seems anyone wants to keep on-list. Discussing bugs in our systems that affect everyone would seem appropriate, to me, but discussion on ways to move forward, and legitimize this project, should dominate the conversation.
Unfortunately, it seems I am in the minority. I continue to see virtually every topic discussed devolve into pointless minutia or displays of bitter resentment at the suggestion that there might be a better way to do, well, anything. Now would be a great time to read An Immodest DNS Proposal[1]. I don't think this is what Robin had in mind when he made his proposal.
Admittedly, I have let myself get into the heat of useless and petty debates before realizing it and backing out. I tire of getting caught in these debates and watching my mailbox fill up with mind-numbing minutia.
So, where do we go from here?
