I've read the article before. Shoot from the hip isn't really a problem,
but people wanting to contribute but feeling the only way they can do so
is through minutia is. Hate to say it, but that's pretty much true. As
such I doubt things will change.

Another problem is OPs like this which are- regardless of good 
intentions- nothing but debate-fodder.
