Jeff,
Thanks for the response, this IP address has been a permanent addition to the server's related network topology; it is part of a redundancy plan that was put in place some time ago for this exact reason.
Being that this is currently the only server for OpenNIC dns services I operate, and users normally use at least 2 dns servers for standard lookup procedures, I assume no one electing to use my server has even noticed. Because bigger is usually better when discussing DNS, I can only perceive this as a benefit to the community.
Thank you for explaining how the new automated tier 2 list works, I was already aware. Assuming you included that information for the same reason I suggested listing the redundant ip address of the server, I ask that you please reconsider your decision for including the 208.125.2.59 address in your published list of Tier2 severs available.
Thanks,
mike--

It is good to have this information out there for general use, however my question would be... is it reasonable to list two separate IP addresses pointing at the same server? Is it worth the effort to create a second listing? Will this second IP be temporary, or is it a permanent connection? Anyone who is using your server as their primary may wish to change their settings, but I think most people will just ignore the problem until your listed IP comes back online again. Just as a refresher for how the automated system handles T2 outages -- If your server fails for 7 days in a row, it will be removed from the general listing, but will continue to be tested. Once your server is online and stable for 2 days, it will automatically reappear in the dns zone files and on the wiki. Technically, I am requesting a second listing while apologizing for my outage at the same time. I expect the link to be back up in the next couple weeks (fffffff-) the primary address for the server is 74.212.172.171 the alternate address is 208.125.2.59 < this IP should be added, not replace the above address. In response to recent dialogue regarding server hardware and links, I am using Business Class links or better for both addresses and server hardware is not "off-the-shelf" / bargain / throw-away hardware. The dns server runs on a virtual machine with sister guests that are serving enterprise sites/software. Thank you for your time and understanding, I am sorry for not submitting the secondary IP earlier. mike---------- You are a member of the OpenNIC Discuss list.
