I would also vote for .libre as a replacement. On December 21, 2016 5:08:35 PM GMT+01:00, Jeff Taylor <shdwdrgn AT sourpuss.net> wrote:We have a couple is issues that have been discussed regarding the
impending collision with .free. From what I've seen online, the ICANN
version is expected to launch some time in 2017, so I feel it is best to
start planning ahead. Also because I realize we are in the holiday
season and a lot of people may be away, I'm going to propose an extended
voting period and will accept replies until January 2nd. This vote will
be kept on the mailing list, so please reply to this thread...
1) Should OpenNIC keep the .FREE TLD after ICANN makes it widely
available, or should we drop it to avoid collisions. Please vote "keep"
or "drop" here. Keep in mind that nobody has stepped forward to make
contact with ICANN, Amazon, or EFF to see if we can even fight this.
And because of the popularity of the name, it is expected that .free
domains will be very popular on ICANN.
2) If we do vote to drop .free when it becomes available on ICANN,
OpenNIC should have a new TLD to fall back on. Proposals have been made
for ".libre" and ".liber". Please cast your vote for which of these you
would prefer we use.
If the vote for #1 is to drop, then I will mirror all existing .free
domains to the new TLD. We will allow domain registrations on the new
TLD, but registrations under .free will be closed. And I will continue
to provide resolution for the existing .free domains until such time as
domain registrations become available on ICANN.
If the vote for #1 is to keep, then I will re-open domain registrations
under .free, and we will ignore the results from #2.
