Hi,

Thanks for your interest.

I don't operate anything to do with Emercoin.

Just to clear things up, the Namecoin software handles registrations using the Namecoin network, and all that I am currently doing is running a script which turns the Namecoin blockchain into a zone file used by BIND, which is the .bit zone for OpenNIC.

There is potential for handling registrations, although I imagine that would be quite complicated and of limited use. I think the crucial issue is the spam. I occasionally get emails asking about domains that aren't resolving as they should be. Normally I've linked the domains/IP addresses in question to reports of malicious activity. As much as I'd like to, I can't blacklist these domains and prevent them from going into the zonefile in the first place as I would need the agreement of the community to do this.

I'm more than happy for one of you to operate the zone. Anyone is free to use the script that I have on my Github, or an alternative script to produce the zone.

Should there be a vote on who will take control?

Thanks

I know, but I thought Calum was also operating the Emercoin mirror on ns9. After checking to be sure, it appears that isn’t the case and Emercoin actually operates their own OpenNIC servers. I was just confused about OpenNIC operators.

Regardless, my offer stands.

All the best,

Jonah

Sorry, let me explain my self

.bit is under namecoin blockchain system and you need to use
namecoins to buy .bit domains
we (as opennic) just serve as a slave entry point for .bit domains.
No need for charter here

But, if I wish to allow users to register .bit using a namecoin
wallet ... I will allow them "similar not equal" to .null charter
I will use my infrastructure as a registrar for .bit
sorry if I didnt explain correctly

Jonah, Emercoin is not Namecoin

Can I assume that you mean that you would like
to use the .null charter for .bit? I was unable
to parse your sentence.

change the charter to use .bit similar to .null.

If this is OK by the community let me know

Dear All,

I'm considering not continuing to operate the .bit zone
for OpenNIC due to not being involved in the project
anymore and also the ongoing spam use of .bit.

I'm aware that there are ways around the spam issue,
for example applying the blacklist when the zone is
generated on my server rather than individual T2s.

However, I wanted to ask whether anyone would be
interested in taking the running of this on? There is a
Python script in my repository at
https://github.com/CalumMc/nmczone which generates a
zonefile from the blockchain.

If you are interest in taking this over, please let me
know and we can proceed with the agreement of the
community.

Kind regards,
Calum
