I don't know why we don't have alternative methods, seems like it'd be a good idea. The only reason I'm updating people here is that there's no other official forms of communication.

It'd be great if we were utilizing some of the features of our homepage like the Press Releases section https://www.opennic.org/press/, which would suit that purpose well enough. It's difficult to get the Tier 1 and 2 operators on board with anything new though, part of the problem is acceptance of a new platform on the operators' part.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I think updating server status only on the mailing list isn't the best idea.

Something like a separate mailing list, a blog or/and an Atom feed would be much nicer, especially for the end-user.
I've heard that one of the problems with Tier2 OpenNIC servers is that you can never be sure if they'll be online.
Better communication might be able to help with that.

Sure, the mailing list is low-volume enough that it is an acceptable solution, but it's already a hurdle for users that are not used to mailing lists.
There are also other threads on the ML, relating to things like server maintenance, peering, projects, questions, etc...

What do you think? Is it possible? Or are there reasons why it hasn't been done yet?

Just a reminder, the servers have been online for well past the 14 days mentioned originally, but today they're finally going offline. If anyone is still using ns10.ny.us, ns5.any, or ns4.ny.us (the adblocking experimental server) you should switch as quickly as possible (~1 hour or less to decommissioning).

Temporarily I guess then. I can't use anycast because for some reason non-US DNS servers (not just OpenNIC) cause Akamai-based sites to not load or screw up. So thank you Jonah for notifying the mailing list.
