Some folks have pointed out that the root-hints file is out of date. Today I have been working on a script to generate a brand new hints file, pulling all data directly from ICANN's root servers. The hardest part of this project has been sorting out the A records to be grouped under their proper $ORIGIN headings.

I have a sample file available here: http://opennic.oss/files/root-hints

I would like help in verifying the contents of this hints file. Basically its a sanity check, to confirm that the A records for each TLD match all of the NS records for the zone. Any manual verification of individual TLD data would be appreciated. I figure if we can spot-check several of the TLDs to confirm the validity my generated file, we should be able to assume all the other groups are being generated correctly. I will be running a live test on the file later the evening, but this zone file should be complete.

The plan is to get to the point where we can generate a nightly build of the hints file, and update the root zone if there are any changes. Looking at the number of changes I have seen right off, I couldn't even guess when the last full update has been to this file.
