I've been hammering away at the code for the last couple days, found some bad mistakes in how I listed the data, and learned a lot of new tricks with Bash programming. The latest copy of this file (still available in the same place) merges the OpenNic TLDs into the alphabetical listing, correctly sorts the origin groups under the proper TLDs, and adds full TTLs to each entry. I also changed the TTLs in the heading of this file to match those being used by ICANN.
The root-hints file is currently running live at ns1.co.us.dns.opennic.glue (216.87.84.211) if anyone wants to test against it. Let me know if you find any issues.

Some folks have pointed out that the root-hints file is out of date. Today I have been working on a script to generate a brand new hints file, pulling all data directly from ICANN's root servers. The hardest part of this project has been sorting out the A records to be grouped under their proper $ORIGIN headings.
I have a sample file available here: http://opennic.oss/files/root-hints
I would like help in verifying the contents of this hints file. Basically its a sanity check, to confirm that the A records for each TLD match all of the NS records for the zone. Any manual verification of individual TLD data would be appreciated. I figure if we can spot-check several of the TLDs to confirm the validity my generated file, we should be able to assume all the other groups are being generated correctly. I will be running a live test on the file later the evening, but this zone file should be complete.
The plan is to get to the point where we can generate a nightly build of the hints file, and update the root zone if there are any changes. Looking at the number of changes I have seen right off, I couldn't even guess when the last full update has been to this file.
