Some folks have pointed out that the root-hints file is out of date. This evening I have been working on a script to generate a brand new hints file, pulling all data directly from ICANN's root servers. The hardest part of this project has been sorting out the A records to be grouped under their proper $ORIGIN headings.

I have a sample file available here: http://opennic.oss/files/root-hints

Note that this file does not yet contain any OpenNIC data. I would like help in verifying the contents of this hints file. Basically its a sanity check, to confirm that the A records for each TLD match all of the NS records for the zone. Any manual verification of individual TLD data would be appriciated. I figure if we can spot-check several of the TLDs to confirm the validity my generated file, we should be able to assume all the other groups are being generated correctly.

The plan is to get to the point where we can generate a nightly build of the hints file, and update the root zone if there are any changes. Looking at the number of changes I have seen right off, I couldn't even guess when the last full update has been to this file.
