Jeff,

The way that typical SNMP type NMS systems work is the highest level
alert color is what filters up to the top level in the collapsed (or
zoomed out) view.

You want to know that there is a yellow or red alert somewhere inside,
and then drilling down gets you closer to the the source of the actual
source of problem.

IMHO you've implemented it correctly according to what NMS users are
accustomed to.
