There are a few actually. They just aren't publicized actually.

This has been proposed about a thousand times but no one has yet to successfully implement and publicize it, therefore there isn't one officially adopted by OpenNIC

I was thinking this morning, as I was planning a new promo piece to write, about how to make using OpenNIC for end users as easy as possible.

So I thought to make a DNS chooser program. Similar in concept to Google's Namebench, but concentrating purely on OpenNIC. The program would query all known Tier2 servers, get an average ping time from each, find the fastest for them then, at the user's option, apply it to the system. This would/should make it even easier for individuals to access OpenNIC's facilities.

The program would be available for Windows and Linux (Mac too if there is a Mac OS developer on the list willing to compile it).

The DNS chooser would be for those who may not have the computer literacy skills and/or comfort level to make the manual modifications to their system themselves. Because if they do, the many great instructions on the website will do just fine.

So, what do you think? Should I see what I can come up with?
