Dear Alexander Nordlund:

Thank you for contacting New gTLD Customer Service. This is an update to your recently submitted inquiry:

Inquiry Submission Date: 07/03/2012 04:52pm
Case ID: 29821
Subject: Question about gTLD collisions.
Inquiry Category: Objections / Dispute Resolution
Inquiry Status: In Progress

Inquiry Update:

Thank you for contacting New gTLD Customer Service. ICANN is committed to a single authoritative root for the DNS and to the management of that unique root in the public interest according to policies developed through community processes. Please see ICP-3 (http://www.icann.org/en/about/unique-authoritative-root) for more information on alternate roots. Any new gTLD that is ultimately approved and entered into the root as a result of the New gTLD program will be entered into the authoritative public root for the Internet's domain name system (DNS). Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thank you.

PREVIOUS RESPONSE: Thank you for contacting New gTLD Customer Service.

You may refer to IANA's database of top level domains for a complete listing of top level domains at http://www.iana.org/domains/root/db/ (root zones that are currently delegated).

Please note that part of the Initial Evaluation process for all applications includes a review for string similarity. Please refer to Module 1 of the Applicant Guidebook http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/applicants/agb for more details as to what is involved in this process.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Description:

Hi,

Quickly looking over the list published in
/newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/application-results/strings-120
0utc-13jun12-en?tag=mncol;txt>
http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/application-results/strings-1200
utc-13jun12-en?tag=mncol;txt I can spot applications for two TLDs which have
already been operated for a long time by the OpenNIC project.

.free and .ing

If these gTLDs were to be incorporated into ICANN you would be creating a
conflict which would mean extra work and implications (at least on one of
the sides).

So we are wondering, what is your stance regarding the collisions?
