No, it is not PPP really (in the sense of PPP protocol), it is only a
"point-to-point" conection:

Each wifi only accepts the MAC of the other, and both cable ethernets
share the same ip mask.

In this way, it is like "join two cable ethernets via wifi" and it can
share also broadcast packets, ARP packets, etc...

Both ethernets are "virtually the same", but they are linked by wifi...

Up to 300 meters, without free vision line or special antennas...

It is very complementary to the interesting Ronja optical links you
are talking about...

(And of course it is limited to zones where there are free wifi channels...)

PD: And it is very cheap: About 20-30 Euros per point.

We dont tested if it could be "upgraded" by adding more points in the
same channel, but i think
it is possible... (But as they are sharing the wifi channel, each new
point share the 108 Mbps bandwith, and ALL packets are trasmitted into
ALL cable ethernets...)

It is like "an older ethernet HUB", but by radio waves and with "long"
distances and no cables...

(Of course, if there are many channels available in the zone, each
channel adds more bandwith, and you can join "radio subnets" by the
same procedure, with two wifis in the same location each one with one
channel)...

With a reflector antenna make with aluminium foil, you can also expand
the range very much (about few kilometers)...

It is not "adaptative and mobile" like olsr or batman protocols, but
it runs well, dont need special firmware or dedicated PCs, and can be
opened as you wish...

Also it is a way to share "internet connections", in the sense you can
use a linux box acting as router for load balancing at any point of
the net...
