You can run an authoritative server in a small VPS (from $5 with digitalocean, $10 linode and many others...)
I have one master server in PowerDNS and one slave in BIND. I use the bind server as opennic authoritative because opennic's scripts are well designed to run with it.
My primary recomendation is to -> spend time to secure your server <-
