I can't think of any system I've ever seen which allows spaces in
the account name. Note however that your account name is separate
from your real name, and the real name field DOES allow spaces (in
fact they are expected). But yeah, from this point forward you
would need to use underscores, hyphens, or periods to separate your
name if you used that as an account username. I should make that
more clear on the registration page as well. On 07/19/2017 05:26 PM, vv AT cgs.pw

I imagine this is the easiest and most reliable way and so please don't take this as a complaint. I just want to note that people's real names normally have a space. This is how my name appears on tax returns etc., so using an underscore, for example, should probably be called a nick name to avoid confusion. I've ended up with something I didn't intend on some sites where I wanted to use my real name. I do understand the desirability of making the "name" something which would also be a valid file name. ~ Ole On Wed, 19 Jul 2017 16:30:50 -0600 Jeff Taylor <shdwdrgn AT sourpuss.net> wrote:Oh I also forgot to mention... there are a number of user names that could contain invalid characters in some systems. For example I found quite a few with spaces in the name. I have corrected the members page so no new accounts can be created with anything but a-z, 0-9, hyphen, underscore, or period, but we will need to clean up the existing accounts at some point. Then we could more easily see which accounts are still active and maybe remove inactive accounts after 3 years or so. Just a little bit of automatic housekeeping. Sure it's nice to say we have 6000 members, but it would be even nicer if we could say we have 3000 ACTIVE members.
