Hi,

I don't think there's much desire for new TLDs in general, *especially*
"country-like" ones.

It has already been shown many times that people running TLDs get usually
bored after a year or two, eventually the servers stop running and the TLD
dies. Which is okay, noone was using it in the first place more likely.

I see your point, but I do not see it as a valid argument to decline proposals for new TLDs: What is the problem if the TLD dies (most) probably after a few years?

What we need is more adoption, or maybe new features (TLS certificates!),
not new TLDs.

That would be even better than new TLDs, right.

I'm new to this mailing list (at least I'm post-flame-war), so excuse me if that was discussed before:

What is the blocker with TLS certificates? That there is no possibility to add per-TLD CAs (e.g. ones, that are not allowed to sign .com, ...)? That noone is willing to run such a(n intermediate) CA? That noone is willing to trust certificates of that CA? Or the whole principle of CAs in general?

greeting,
Erich

I don't want to deprive anyone of the fun of running a TLD or whatever, but
unless they can somehow prove that it'll bring either adoption or that they
can at least keep the TLD running for, say, 10 years, I see no reason to
accept it.

Oh and the recent discussions / flame wars were also not fun, I wouldn't be
surprised if that drove many people away from here. I was on the verge of
leaving permanently.

Just my opinion though,
Amunak

I'm not seeing any discussion about this. The IRC

Where is everybody?

I am proposing .ssr for use as a general purpose TLD.
Registration would be open to anyone for any purpose.
Right now there are no functional three letter general
use TLDs.
