I was going for something cheap and more reliable than hosting at home. I have a couple ec2 instances but not pushing as much data as you. Plus, when OpenNIC is a 501c3, this could be written off! Not entirely for sure how that is going to work, but I am donating something to the org.

virtual instance, but 20GB/month of traffic shouldn't be too bad. I
run a couple of Tor nodes in the EC2 pushing 100GB/month each and the
cost is only around $25us/month. I've never seen them throttle the
traffic on any of my nodes, though to meet them halfway I've elected
to limit their traffic to 350kb/sec.
Running a tier-2 DNS in the EC2 sounds like a feasible project.
