Apart from the U.S. potentially alienating it self in regard to domain
registration,
I know someone who is now purchasing ONLY .ws and .info domains for real sites and is only using existing .net and .com to forward them because of this.

this may even strengthen the need and disire for an alternative to I.C.A.N.N.
From the many reasons I sought out, found and joined OpenNIC, one of the top two of them was because of this.
