In general the rootless TLD concept can be implemented in a variety of ways.  We chose a method that not only addresses the central authority issue, but others as well, especially privacy.

While we remain compatible with the standard port 53 queries, we also use a technique we call SyncPackets to completely mask both the content and the time of DNS queries.  There is no ISP logging and traffic analysis yields nothing.  This is part of the Matryoshka Communications model described at http://ShofarPortfolio.com/Matryoshka.

As to the site, yes it is busy, however not so much compared to Amazon or a news site.  It is overwhelming for the first time or novice viewer and we would like to address that in time.  However, for someone who is technology savvy and works with the tools on the site, the busyness is a blessing.  For example the DNS diagnostic tool at http://ShofarDomain.com/@Net,DNS is busy but the content is valuable.  As to more valid criticisms, there is clearly some clumsiness to the page that we need to address and the reverse IP lookup is missing.  These will be addressed in time.

I was going to reply you were being harsh, but that's before I saw the site.

That said, we can definitely talk about it anyway, given how a site is just that, a site. I like the rootless idea.

Wow. That site needs redesigned. Trying to navigate is like trying to learn a language which no one speaks anymore.

We have added OpenNIC to ShofarDomain’s rootless domain system and would welcome a dialog.  Our objective is not to be an alternative root, but to eliminate the need for roots.  With the rootless system all TLDs are peers.  With the peer model, the central authority is gone and the whole system is more resilient.

Our offering of TLDs, such as “.Gun”, “.TeaParty”, “.Occupy”, “.ProChoice”, “,ProLife”, and others use a digital signature based system that allows for true ownership rather than the rental model.  SLDs are offered at a $10 one-time fee and the business model allows for any party to become a retailer and retaining about half of that amount.

Our technology includes a model where DNS traffic is hidden from the ISP to prevent logging.

We invite dialog here and you can contact me directly at  John.Kozlowski AT ShofarDomain.com.

While not all data is in place, you can see what we have thus far for OpenNIC at http://ShofarDomain.com/Org,OpenNIC.
