Hey guys,
I had updated my progress on IRC but should have also updated the mailing list. There has been a misunderstanding on this list about the issues with the database and the .pirate TLD in general: The database was corrupted (possibly hacked) and we believe that this was due in part to gallium. Most gallium installations running right now are done within the safety of the OpenNIC realm, ours was also available to traditional nic clients as well and there were lots of issues with spam and such.

It /shouldn't/ have taken a year but the first time I did this I threw up gallium, customized it's theme, and then went along my merry way. I got busy with other projects, and when this one had issues there was zero time available for me to fix it. The people I had around me didn't have the time or desire to help either. I should have come to OpenNIC and either let someone else take it over or asked for help... the fact that I didn't is a failure on my part and I fully accept peoples disappointment in that.

Tim has been working on a new Gallium which he says fixes many of the problems if the current gallium branch, according to him it's now available for download... though I have not found where that is. I already have a redundant system in place for the database and everything, I am even working on having separate T1 and Gallium servers so load on one does not affect the other. These are all things I want in place BEFORE re-launching .pirate. I want it to be better and not held back by the problems my previous effort had.

I am really excited about the future of the .pirate TLD -- I have the money, the time, and the energy to get it back up and turned into one of the premiere TLDs of OpenNIC. I am setting a completion date of April 1st (up until now I have been saying "the end of March" but would rather give a date), in which the TLD will be ready and I will do a bunch of launch stuff.

I know it's still a little ways out, but after this long I think an extra month or so is well worth the wait to have a fully polished and production ready product... instead of forcing me to rush it or handing it over to someone else who would have to do a similar rush to have it ready by then.

I am going to email the people who have said they would like to be a part of the project and work with them because I want more input and transparency around the development of .pirate as well as the help :P
