By "they" I meant "the establishment". As soon as anti-virus programs started
covering malware, Spybot has since gotten terrible reviews, some of which
were proven to be based on dated defs. You started seeing 1-star editor
ratings next to 5-star ones (this was formerly on CNET but they adjusted it
after their studies were exposed to be fraudulent). Also, a number of
antivirus programs refuse to install unless Spybot is removed first
(including Trend Micro and McAfee, which Spybot calls "malicious" because of
control taken from the user).
