In the past we have always left it up to a member vote, however the vote has always leaned towards remaining compatible with ICANN.  That doesn't mean this time won't be different.  If we vote to retain our own version of .free, it means nobody using opennic DNS servers can reach the icann .free websites.  Unfortunately there is no middle ground here, it has to be one way or the other.

If this is true, then we only have two options... retain our TLD and conflict with ICANN, or drop our TLD and all of the domains underneath it (there are currently 150 registered domains).
