I had a whois service running for awhile, nobody seemed to be interested in it.  What do you need their contact info for?

No contacts for the domain names when they registered?

If somebody knows where to find the list, one could write a script, that would nmap them one by one and we will know how many domains are really being use. Then maybe we cloud contact the owners...

That is good information, thanks Jeff.

I would suggest though that of those 146 domains
it is likely that less than 10 are in use. In fact
my experience with grep.geek sites is that roughly
one in ten of those there do not exist. So perhaps
there are only 5 .free sites in actual use. One would
have to check all 146 domains by hand (a bot won't do)
and look to see if there is actually any real content.

I don't wish to sound overly negative, but some
people on this list seem to be having hallucinations
or grandiose dreams about the status of OpenNIC in
the internet world. OpenNIC is important, for sure,
but not everybody thinks so and our buy-in is an
immeasurable percentage.

        Ole

It looks like there are 146 registered domains (including the default ones like reg and www). Of those, 57 appear to have records pointing to a website (based on data collected by grep.geek). Beyond that I don't really have any data as to how frequently domains are registered. On 12/22/2016 10:46 AM, Fusl Dash wrote:
Actually, before counting my vote. Can we get some background information on the .free TLD? Like, how many domains are currently registered under this TLD? How many new registrations do we have per month and how many of the TLDs are really used (pointing to a server not counting in the NS records to our TLDs DNS)?
