However, I'm not talking to you when I say that
people need to actually make an effort when
it comes to starting a new communications channel
of some kind.

Everyone needs to understand that it is like
a party. One really does need to keep the
conversation going. It's not enough to just sit
there. At some point, a reasonable person just
gets up and leaves if, after a while, they find
that they are only one talking and everyone else
just sits there and stares.
