A *possible* reasoning for the proposer not to vote would be that they want to ask for the community's opinion, while not giving any (reinforced) bias: "What do you guys think of this?" vs. "I really think we should do it this way, any objections?". This example is grossly exaggerated.

As Sebastian pointed out, their vote was counted once.

Counting spoiled votes might lead to none of the options reaching absolute majority. It shows that there isn't a general consensus and that people are unhappy.
Compare a vote count with 40% spoiled, 40% A and 20% B with the same results, but without the spoiled votes: 67% A and 33% B.

Megan.

This is a democracy, the original proposer can vote as they please. Like I mentioned in Discord, the proposer not voting would be like the president not voting on Election Day. Ridiculous.

Also it looks like your count has the same outcome, I’m not sure what the deal is. Additionally, you have two “spoiled” votes by the same person in your count, that’s especially incorrect.

Passed 10-1.
Effective as of August 16, 2018.
I count differently. I must insist on someone else doing a third
counting.

(Also I VERY STRONGLY consider the counting by the proposer a bad thing
and IN NO EVENT trustworthy. Counting of voices MUST be done by someone
independent.)

I count:
       No:
             * Christopher <weblionx AT gmail.com>

       Spoiled:
             * Amunak <amunak AT amunak.net>

             * vv AT cgs.pw
             * Grant Baron <grant AT hqm.me>
             * Alex Hanselka <amh AT ddna.co>
             * Katie Holly <katie AT opennic.org>
             * Daniel Quintiliani <danq AT runbox.com> Proposer!

No: 1, Spoiled: 3, Yes: 10
Total votes: 14.

No: 1/14 = ~7.14%, Spoiled: 3/14 = ~21.43%, Yes: 10/14 = ~71.43%

'Yes' would pass.

I must also note here that I personally feel that who proposes should
not vote at all or vote invalid. It's a matter of kindness and honor.
And also often enforced by voting rules.

With best regards,
