it's always good to ask for confirmation and by that way have a formal
way to contact ICANN.

Also, it would make better press releases, as "OpenNIC TLDs get taken
by ICANN" sounds a couple of magnitudes better than "OpenNIC deletes
itself on external pressure."

I agree with Julian, that this is a sad day for the Internet. But as
always, no one will notice and run for the free coupon for liking the
new domains on Facebook.
