Yes. The reason I use iptables when I'm using Tor is to avoid needing software
that supports fully running traffic through a SOCKS proxy. This is called
transparent proxying, and in my case doesn't yield any negative side-effects
(unless you could not being able to use torrents, which isn't a big deal for
me given that doing so would be rude to Tor network operators and users.)

Sorry for the thread necromancy, I really need to resubscribe at my new email
address but meh.

On a tangential note, I use the Slackware GNU/Linux distro, and I've been
meaning to make a point of creating a custom installer for a decently secure
OS which would use things like Tor and OpenNIC by default. One of these days I
may set up a website to share my thoughts and progress on this if people are
interested.
