As someone who is not a coder, I think I can answer this
Opennic is a forum for a limited group of coders to show off the e-peen
skills, by constantly trying to re-invent the wheel and obsessing over
minutiae, trying to prove they're better than anyone else rather than
doing anything productive. Some have used project goodwill to conduct
bait+switch scams, or as some kind of personal promotion.
I look back and see it's not only no further than it was a year ago,
when I made the same points, in many ways it's gotten worse.
If you want to take this anywhere, many of you need to go get your egos
in check, and start doing what's NEEDED rather than what you WANT to do,
or think would be cool to do.
Right now, if someone asked me about OpenNic, I'd tell them not to
bother, because they couldn't organise their way out of a wet paper bag,
because everyone wants to be the chief, and no-one wants to be the
Indian, and no-one thinks long-term. Both terrible aspects when it comes
to a project like this.
So long, and seeya.
