Perosnally I would be all for resolving .bit. I don't see how it is undermining their system - you would be only providing a bridge to access the system in a more convenient way. Registrations and people truly interested in its safe, distributed nature would stay on the namecoin network anyway. I have to agree though that consensus is needed. There's enough mess in opennic as it is now. I don't believe "half support" is a viable option. That said I will happily add it to my T2 if T1 is set up on opennic.

I'm personally for trying it out, although I can see some folks for
.bit getting upset that it's undermining the way it's supposed to
work. Again, I'd suggest setting up the T1 and running a trial with
whichever T2 admins want to include it.

I actually didn't know that. Although it would have been a nice TLD
if it weren't already a DNS system as you've just said.

Would be nice to see .bit resolved using OpenNIC though.

.bit would be great for stores that support Bitcoin and other
decentralized P2P currencies. Also would be pretty good for file sharing
and general tech websites.

I can't tell if you're aware or not, but .bit is an existing
decentralised DNS system using the same technology as Bitcoin. I am
suggesting resolving the TLD, not creating it.
