There aren't any technical changes on the code. But that's it basically:
mp3 was never and is not aligned with the project's mission. So if it
works for you... If it doesn't than we don't care ;)
We will not break stuff on intention, but if something breaks there are
only commercial options to keep mp3 support up (there are such options
outside the Icecast project).

Ices 0.x was replaced by Ices 2.x as the version number suggest. It's
not a 'brach' or something. It's the version number. So there are newer
versions.... namely 2.x.y ;)

It doesn't. Again, because of not being aligned with the mission.

I thought so. It looks like you combined some ready to use stuff with a
few scripts. That is not negative feedback in any way! It is the way
POSIX tells you to build systems!
This is also why I write you. To provide feedback, ideas and help if you
are going to change stuff.

Converting the files isn't needed at all. stream and input file formats
don't correlate too much. If you are sending at fixed bitrate (again
bitrate != quality) with MP3 you are already transcoding on the fly. If
you do so you could also transcode to another codec. Doesn't make any
difference.

(And again: bitrate != quality. they don't relate as much as people seem
to expect.) What arrived at me didn't seem to be a 128kbit/s MP3. But I
will recheck.

Oh, That is exactly what a directory is about. Think of the word and the
meaning of it without the context!
To have data such as what is playing right now is just a bonus you get.
Have a good morning!
