I'm not sure that going to Amazon nor ICANN would be a good idea.
Aside from a reality that Amazon probably spent some serious money for
the domain, they are not necessarily known to play nice with others.
As for ICANN, they could simply look at all OpenNIC tlds and grab them
for ICANN use.
So in all reality, I'm more leaning to what Brian said, earlier. We
simply ignore the Amazon acquisition and continue using .free as part of
OpenNIC. I certainly can't see it having any conflict until ... or
if ... Amazon actually uses it in any functional way.
