This wouldn't work because you connection's IP address changes and the
majority of DNS settings use IP addresses.

You would be able to get quite far with a VPS which costs about £3 / €3 per
month.

One issue is that every site would need to add domainname.tld.opennic.org to
their hosting setup, so you would still need site operators to opt-in by
adding configuration, and most people in this space will have their own ICANN
domains too.

http://proxy.opennicproject.org exists to help people view opennic domains
without needing to set up DNS.

In terms of ease of use devices like a Pi Hole (which is mainly a network ad
blocker) are the way to go, or one of my own projects is a router pre
configured to use a VPN service, so you would connect to this device's wifi
instead of your ISPs, but I need a job to pay for my hobbies so it's all
paused.
