It's funny, because although I personally cringe at the idea of too
many subdomains, I posit that

1. ICANN is doing it anyway, and they'll only make it available to
those who can put up big money.

2. There's no way non-technical people will see the point in an
alternate root unless we can give them something they can't get
through ICANN.

3. Non-technical people are the key to giving this project any kind of
real-world traction.

At the very least, I've been operating with the above assumptions. I'm
open to invalidating them, though.
