Its neither self signed not prevents registration!
Its a CACert signed cert, cacert is a free CA.

You are free to make donations in the area of a few hundred euros just 
for ssl certificates if you want a change, and then theres still the 
issue that i personally doesnt want to invest that much money into a big 
pile of snakeoil.

Neither will there probably a non secure version of the page.

And I am not sure if fellig.org sends a reg mail..
Will ask the operator for the Zone
