What is the nature of the over-the-wire protocol? Is it XML-, JSON-,
or YAML-based, since there are already parsers available?

I bring this up because whenever I finish up the initial version of my
own attempt at domain registry software, it should not be too much
more difficult to add a CRUD/REST interface, and the library I'm
eyeing speaks these data representations natively.
